    An idea lifted from hypnogun

I am an old-school comic book fan. The first comic I bought with my own money and read cover-to-cover was Justice League of America #100. This would be the one published in 1971(ish) and it featured the Justice League and the Justice Society searching the missing Seven Soldiers of Victory. In the meanwhile a villain named the Iron-Hand (possibly claw) was going to destroy on of the two worlds the heroes were from.

Now here is the thing. In 1971 (and pretty much until "Crisis on Infinite Earths" was written) DC comics had multiple dimensions. The JLA was from Earth-1 and the heroes history began in the mid 1960's. The JSA was from Earth-2 and their history began in the 1930's. So, their was a JLA Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, etc. and there were older, slightly different, versions of the same heroes in the JSA.

So, the idea of extra dimensional versions of the same hero is ingrained into me.

What's the point? Well, when I created Dr. Apocalypse, I decided I wanted to reserve that name as much as possible across the servers (and I was pretty successful)... But, I decided that I wanted each version of the good Doctor to be slightly different.

If you've managed to stay with me so far... the Origin of Dr. Apocalypse and his extra dimensional counterparts

The Secret origin of Dr. Apocalypse : John Mansfield was born to a wealthy Paragon city family, his parents were supportive and kind, though they may have spoiled John a bit too much. When it was discovered that John was born a mutant with the power to control and emit wide bands of radiation, his family spared no expense to ensure that John was healthy and learned to control his powers. All of this is mentioned so you will understand that he had no excuse for what followed.

John graduated high-school early and left town to attend college up-state. He excelled at school, gaining a doctorate is Applied Physics, returning home to seek a career with Crey Industries. John’s father paved the way for him in the Paragon City science community. Once again, John had his opportunities handed to him and once again, he failed to realize what was given to him.

During the daytime hours, John worked for Crey as a researcher. At night John had a different career. John donned a containment suit and called himself Dr. Apocalypse. His goal was global domination. In John’s small mind, he was a Supervillain, in reality he was a small-time thug with delusions of grandeur. John formed a small gang called the Omega Battalion and set about committing petty crimes to finance his future as ruler of the world. It was shortly thereafter that the Rikti invaded.

During the Rikti invasion John saw heroes, true heroes, die defending the city his father loved and the world he sought to conquer. The night the Rikti attack derailed the train, John held his father’ broken body and realized how much of his life he had wasted. He went to his ‘lair’ and dismissed his gang. The Omega Battalion had never seen Dr. Apocalypse so quiet, so focused. They fled before him fearing he had finally gone insane; the truth was stranger than that. John stripped his armor and donned his simple white jumpsuit, boots and fingerless gloves; he bound his hair in a pony-tail and secured his glasses with a band. When John left the old warehouse, he joined the true heroes of Paragon city in the war against the invader.

No one commented on the change in Dr. Apocalypse. It was possible that no one noticed. But in the end, John’s change was apparent to everyone who knew him. He quit Crey and began teaching high-school in the makeshift schools that survived the invasion. He used what wealth he had to care for his mother and to help those made homeless in the aftermath and the city found a new defender, a quiet, friendly man called Dr. Apocalypse.

Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-Prime (Victory)(followed by Dr. A's "classic" look. His costume changed after encountering his 'brother' Scott on a visit to Earth-P2

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-C (Champion)
In this Universe, the Rikti war lasted a few days longer than Earth-Prime and John's mother was killed in the same accident as his father. As a result, Dr. Apocalypse modified his containment suit and began hunting the Rikti in earnest. John is known as a grim avenger that defends Paragon's darkened street with a hunger for justice that can never be quenched.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-F (Freedom)
Joan Mansfield shares the same origin as that of the Earth-Prime hero. She is known as a gentle healer with a sense of justice as strong as her powerful Radiation blasts

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-G (Guardian)
In this world, John was born 10 years before he was in the Earth-Prime universe. Here he became a powerful gang leader and criminal in paragon before the Rikti attacked and he lost his parents. Bitter and angry, John abandoned his costume, his gang and his life to battle the invaders, since then he is rarely been seen outside of the Paragon homelss community, where he fights the Rikti infection known as The Lost

    Doc Apocalypse of Earth-I (Infinity)
Jim Mansfield, John's brother, took his heroic brother's place after John died battling the Rikti. Jim, using John's technology, activated his own latent mutation and designed a costume that protected his identity as a Paragon city policman.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-J (Justice)
In this universe, perhaps some of John's father's messages sunk in. John stayed at home to go to school and consulted his father before taking on the mantle of Superhero. During the Rikti invasion, John kept his family and neighborhood safe before joining the larger battle against the Rikti. In this universe, John is a respectful man, perhaps he is not as mature as his Earth-Prime counterpart, but his humor is infectious and his behavior is heroic.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-P1 (Pinnacle)
In this universe, John's powers ran more to healing (empathy), beyond that his origins are essentially the same.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-P2 (Protector)
The John Mansfield we know died at a young age from the radiation within him. Though devastated, years later the Mansfield's had another son. Scott, like John, was born with radiation powers, but the mutation was discovered earlier and his father sought the best training for Scott from a very early age. Scott's powers differ from John's in that his powers are more broad-based (Controller) and his primary ability manifested as Psionics (Mind Control). Scott was in High-School when the Rikti invaded... the name? Dr. Apocalypse just sounded cool.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-T (Triumph)
In this reality, John's father died of cancer as a result of John's power and John took over the family business. As a result, John's powers developed more in the area of healing (Empathy/Radiation) and he joined the community of heroes well before the Rikti invaded. John is now CEO of his father's firm, but still is seen in Paragon, dfending the city he loves.

    Dr. Apocalypse of Earth-V (Virtue)
Born a few years later than his Earth-Prime counterpart, Johnny 'Apocalypse' is a cutting-edge warrior for a cutting-edge generation. Rather than develop a desire for world domination, Johnny joined the hellions and worked his way to the level of a lesser-boss before the Rikti invaded. Now, deprived of his father, Johnny realizes what he missed in his youthful rebellion and has vowed to make his father proud by keeping the streets of his city safe.

I thank you for your endurance. *G*
