  • Well... it's been a while since I updated. A lot of that time has been spent playing City of Heroes. CoH is a MMORPG (which I said I'd never do again) where you play Superheroes... yeah... I'm a sucker for Supers.

In keeping with my Geekiness I will now share things that NO ONE will care about.

This is my Main Character, Dr. Apocalypse, who I play on the Victory server.

The Secret origin of Dr. Apocalypse : John Mansfield was born to a wealthy Paragon city family, his parents were supportive and kind, though they may have spoiled John a bit too much. When it was discovered that John was born a mutant with the power to control and emit wide bands of radiation, his family spared no expense to ensure that John was healthy and learned to control his powers. All of this is mentioned so you will understand that he had no excuse for what followed.

John graduated high-school early and left town to attend college up-state. He excelled at school, gaining a doctorate is Applied Physics, returning home to seek a career with Crey Industries. John’s father paved the way for him in the Paragon City science community. Once again, John had his opportunities handed to him and once again, he failed to realize what was given to him.

During the daytime hours, John worked for Crey as a researcher. At night John had a different career. John donned a containment suit and called himself Dr. Apocalypse. His goal was global domination. In John’s small mind, he was a Supervillain, in reality he was a small-time thug with delusions of grandeur. John formed a small gang called the Omega Battalion and set about committing petty crimes to finance his future as ruler of the world. It was shortly thereafter that the Rikti invaded.

During the Rikti invasion John saw heroes, true heroes, die defending the city his father loved and the world he sought to conquer. The night the Rikti attack derailed the train, John held his father’ broken body and realized how much of his life he had wasted. He went to his ‘lair’ and dismissed his gang. The Omega Battalion had never seen Dr. Apocalypse so quiet, so focused. They fled before him fearing he had finally gone insane; the truth was stranger than that. John stripped his armor and donned his simple white jumpsuit, boots and fingerless gloves; he bound his hair in a pony-tail and secured his glasses with a band. When John left the old warehouse, he joined the true heroes of Paragon city in the war against the invader.

No one commented on the change in Dr. Apocalypse. It was possible that no one noticed. But in the end, John’s change was apparent to everyone who knew him. He quit Crey and began teaching high-school in the makeshift schools that survived the invasion. He used what wealth he had to care for his mother and to help those made homeless in the aftermath and the city found a new defender, a quiet, friendly man called Dr. Apocalypse.
